Former Kentucky Mr. Football candidate Kolbe Langhi transferring from UK

University of Kentucky quarterback Kolbe Langhi has entered the NCAA transfer portal.

Langhi, a walk-on, was a sophomore academically this season for the Wildcats. The 6-foot-4, 235-pound Hopkinsville native’s name appeared Wednesday on 247Sports’ transfer portal tracker, and he confirmed his transfer to Tyler Dixon, sports editor of the Kentucky New Era.

A former Mr. Football candidate out of Christian County High School, Langhi threw for 9,002 yards and 101 touchdowns in his high school career. He never took a snap in actual game during his two seasons as a Wildcat but played in the 2019 spring game; he was 0-for-2 with an interception.

Langhi’s only reported scholarship offer while he was in high school was from Eastern Kentucky University. Rivals rated him as a two-star prospect.

In a January story from Dixon, Langhi had nothing but positive things to say about his first year on campus, during which UK went 10-3 after finishing the season with a win over Penn State in the Citrus Bowl.

“I think it’s the coolest thing ever. I wanted to play for a football school my whole life,” Langhi said. “I’ve always been a Kentucky Wildcat fan, but I lived in a basketball state my whole life. I always wanted to play for a football school and when I was growing up, Kentucky wasn’t ever that top-caliber team. Now that I get here and it’s all turned around, it’s just an amazing feeling.”

UK as of Dec. 11 is projected to have seven scholarship quarterbacks on its roster for the 2020 season: seniors Terry Wilson and Sawyer Smith, junior Walker Wood, sophomore Joey Gatewood, redshirt freshmen Amani Gilmore and Nik Scalzo, and true freshman Beau Allen.

Shawnkel Knight-Goff

Former Doss High School standout Shawn’Kel Knight-Goff, who left UK’s team about midway through the season, has also submitted his name into the transfer portal.

UK head coach Mark Stoops told reporters in October that Knight-Goff told him he was no longer interested in playing football.

Knight-Goff — a 6-2, 220-pound freshman — was considered a three-star prospect by 247Sports and Rivals.
