In-state standout Lavell Wright commits to the University of Kentucky
Another in-state standout has committed to the University of Kentucky football program.
Lavell Wright, a three-star recruit out of North Hardin High School, announced his commitment to the Wildcats during Wednesday morning’s broadcast of Kentucky Sports Radio.
“Just how much I trusted the coaches,” Wright told KSR of his decision-making process. “ ... Knowing that I can be right at home, playing for my state, has always been a good feeling for me.”
Wright is rated as a three-star prospect by 247Sports and Rivals. Boston College, Northwestern, West Virginia, Maryland and Purdue were among his other suitors. He’s committing as a running back, and is considered the No. 8 all-purpose back in the junior class by Rivals.
He became the second in-state recruit to commit as part of the 2021 class, joining Somerset quarterback Kaiya Sheron, and became the seventh player to commit to the Wildcats. In addition to Sheron, wide receiver Chauncey Magwood, lineman Paul Rodriguez, defensive end Kahlil Saunders, wide receiver Armond Scott and lineman David Wohlabaugh have announced commitments to UK.
North Hardin defensive lineman Octavious Oxendine signed with UK as part of the 2020 class. Kentucky also is recruiting Jordan Lovett, a Trojans defensive back who’s also considered a three-star prospect.
“Lavell is a quality young man who carries himself well on the field and off,” North Hardin football coach Brent Thompson wrote in a text message to the Herald-Leader. “He runs with an attitude and wants to compete at the highest level. Lavell is a great asset to the BBN just like Octavious was in December! BBN has gained two of the best young men I have coached.”
Wright rushed for 1,819 yards and 25 touchdowns for the Trojans in 2019. He also caught 34 passes for 553 yards and three TDs.
