Octavious Oxendine was among the most coveted uncommitted players in Kentucky’s senior football class. The Radcliff native decided Wednesday to stay close to home.

Oxendine, a 6-foot-3, 296-pound defensive tackle out of North Hardin High School, announced his commitment to and signed a letter of intent to play for the University of Kentucky on Wednesday. He chose the in-state Wildcats over offers from a final three that also included Tennessee and Texas.

Rivals rates Oxendine as a four-star prospect and has him ranked as the 24th best player at his position nationally. 247Sports has Oxendine as a three-star player and as the No. 49 defensive tackle in its composite ranking.

“Octavious wull make an impact on the next level because of his internal drive and his desire to be the best,” North Hardin head coach Brent Thompson wrote in a text message to the Herald-Leader.

Oxendine ended his senior season with 62 total tackles — 17 for a loss — and 14.5 sacks. North Hardin allowed only 43 rushing yards per game this season and finished 13-1 overall. The Trojans fell in the Class 6A state semifinals to Trinity, the eventual champion.

North Hardin juniors Lavell Wright, considered by Rivals to be the No. 8 all-purpose back in the junior class, and Lovett, whom 247Sports ranks as the nation’s No. 22 safety, both have been offered scholarships by UK.

Isaiah Beasley, a 5-11, 235-pound defensive end for the Trojans, committed to UK as a preferred walk-on in September. UK has also offered a preferred walk-on spot to Darren Green, another North Hardin senior.
