Martin Emerson, one of Mississippi State’s starting cornerbacks, was ejected early during the UK-MSU game after a targeting penalty.
Emerson, who started all 11 games for the Bulldogs last season, was flagged for targeting after a tackle made against UK receiver Wan’Dale Robinson, who caught a first-down reception before taking the hit. Emerson upon review appeared to lead with the crown of his helmet. Officials confirmed the call on the field, and he was ejected by rule from the game.
The Bulldogs’ secondary was already without starting safety Fred Peters. In addition, starting right guard Kwatrivious Johnson was not in uniform for Mississippi State.
