This year’s NFL Draft is April 28-30. A number of former University of Kentucky stars are eligible, and many are expected to be selected this year. We’re taking a look at every UK player who hopes to have their name called.
Quandre Mosely
Height: 6-foot-2
Weight: 185
Hometown: Brunswick, Ga. (Glynn Academy)
Projected NFL position: Defensive back
What you’ll remember about him at UK: Consistency. Mosely started only four of the 36 games he played at Kentucky but made the most of his role in the Cats’ rotation, where he played safety and corner. He missed just one game in his three seasons. In his final season, he had a career-high three pass break-ups against LSU.
Key stats: 26 tackles (two for a loss) and two interceptions (one returned 38 yards for a touchdown) in 2021. Ten pass breakups and three interceptions in his career.
Career development: A wide receiver in high school, Mosely ended up at Eastern Arizona Community College and moved to defense. He spent two seasons with the Gila Monsters, recording six interceptions as a sophomore, before signing with Kentucky over Oregon and Utah. He played right away as a safety for the Cats, starting twice in 2019, and moved full-time to cornerback ahead of the 2021 season after returning for a fifth year of eligibility under the NCAA’s COVID-19 waiver.
Latest draft projections: Undrafted.
His future: His marks at UK’s Pro Day — 4.32 seconds, unofficially, in the 40-yard dash and a 36-inch vertical — ought to be enough to get Mosely an undrafted free-agent deal. He should have an opportunity to compete for a spot on an NFL practice squad. His background and measurables are similar to those of Brandin Echols, who was a relative unknown compared to UK’s other 2021 draftees and arguably had the best rookie campaign of the lot. The most likely outcome for Mosely is a spot on a pro football roster outside of the NFL. Three years of experience as a Southeastern Conference defensive back will benefit him wherever he ends up.
Quote: “JUCO is way easier than the SEC. You can look at the quarterback the whole time and he’s gonna tell you where you’re going, and you just go get the ball. When I was doing that, I was catching interceptions and things and it became fun. Ever since then, I fell in love with (defense).” — Quandre Mosely to BBN Tonight
