There will be no UK football spring game, but fans are invited to April 12 practice

There will be no traditional spring game for Kentucky football this month, but fans will still have a chance to see the rebuilt Wildcat roster for the first time on April 12.

In place of the normal public scrimmage held as the cap to spring practice, UK is hosting what it has called a “spring showcase” at Kroger Field. The event will feature practice segments, but a news release announcing the event acknowledged “full game play could be limited.”

The event will not be televised or streamed online.

“I want to open it up to (media) and to our fans,” UK coach Mark Stoops said earlier on the first day of spring practice when asked if there would be a spring game. “Even if it is a practice, at least, a lot of times you see more than a spring game.

“… If we split up two teams, you are diluting it and it doesn’t always look as good as it can in the fall when we put them all on one team, right? So if we go offense against defense, at least you get a good vision, you get to see the players play, you get to do something.”

As UK prepares to host a Tyler Childers concert at Kroger Field a week later, there were be some areas of the stadium off limits to fans during the April 12 practice.

The east and west concourses will be closed. Access to Gate 3 from the south side of the stadium will only be from walking the exterior. Seating is limited to the sideline sections in the lower bowl because the end zones will be closed for concert preparations.

Most standard seating in along the sidelines will be first-come, first-served, though a few blocks will be reserved for use of the football program. Admission is free, as is parking in the red, green, blue and orange lots around the stadium.

Gates open at 9:30 a.m. The practice begins at 10 a.m.
