Numbers of note and a full stats breakdown of Kentucky football’s 45-17 loss at Vanderbilt on Saturday:
Pass, fail: Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia threw for 469 yards Saturday, a combination of some near-perfect passes and his ability to pick on a shorthanded Kentucky secondary. Vandy totaled 539 passing yards in the game. The big passing yardage in a UK loss continued in trend. In their five wins this season, the Wildcats have allowed 197.4 passing yards per game. In six losses, that number jumps to 285.
Margin improvement: Entering Saturday, Vanderbilt had allowed an average of 27.6 points and 435.6 yards of total offense over its previous five games, all against SEC competition. Vandy went 3-2 in those games with each of the three wins coming by seven points. The Commodores had only one previous double-digit conference win this season, beating South Carolina 31-7 on Sept. 13.
The no-running men: Playing largely from behind, Kentucky set season lows in rushing attempts (19) and yards (31). It was UK’s fewest rushing yards in a game since it ran for 21 in a loss at Texas on Nov. 23, 2024. UK’s previous lows this season in attempts (22) and yards (45) came in a loss at Georgia on Oct. 4. Against Vanderbilt, UK averaged a season-worst 1.6 yards per rushing attempt.
