University of Kentucky sophomore C. J. Conrad was one of 45 players named Wednesday to the watch list for the 2016 John Mackey Award, which annually honors college football’s most outstanding tight end.
Conrad, one of five sophomores to make the list, played in all 12 games last season as a true freshman and started nine. The native of LaGrange, Ohio, caught 15 passes for 149 yards and one touchdown.
After the 2015 season, Conrad was named Freshman All-America Third Team by Athlon Sports and to the Southeastern Conference All-Freshman Team by league coaches.
Louisville senior Cole Hikutini was also named to the watch list. Hikutini caught 19 passes for 348 yards and three TDs last season.

The award recipient is selected by vote of the John Mackey Award Selection Committee. The winner will be announced Dec. 7.
Mackey is a Pro Football Hall of Famer who played most of his career with the Baltimore Colts.
Kentucky kicks off the 2016 season Sept. 3 at 7:30 p.m. against Southern Mississippi at Commonwealth Stadium.
