Kentucky’s Toth selected to Rimington Trophy watch list
University of Kentucky senior Jon Toth was named Wednesday to the watch list for the 2016 Rimington Trophy, which goes to college football’s best center.
Toth, who also made the Rimington watch list last fall, is one of 62 centers up for the 2016 trophy. That list includes seven others from the Southeastern Conference: Frank Ragnow (Arkansas), Brandon Kublanow (Georgia), Ethan Pocic (LSU), Jamaal Clayborn (Mississippi State), Robert Conyers (Ole Miss), Alan Knott (South Carolina) and Coleman Thomas (Tennessee).
Max Halpin, a senior from Fort Mitchell at Western Kentucky, also made the watch list.
Toth, a native of Indianapolis, is one of four returning starters on the Kentucky offensive line. The 6-foot-5, 310-pound senior will enter his senior season having played in 36 games with 35 consecutive starts.
Toth is a three-time SEC academic honor roll member and is on track to graduate in December with a degree in mechanical engineering.
Dave Rimington, the award’s namesake, was a consensus first-team All-America center at the University of Nebraska in 1981 and 1982.
