There’s a new top player in the class of 2024 according to 247Sports, and he’s a top recruiting target for Kentucky.

On Wednesday afternoon, 247Sports released its new recruiting rankings, with shooting guard Tre Johnson rising to the top spot.

The battle for the top overall spot in the updated 247Sports rankings came down to a quartet of players: Flory Bidunga (center), Naas Cunningham (small forward), Ian Jackson (shooting guard) and Johnson.

While the internal debate at 247Sports was fierce, Jackson and Johnson ultimately separated themselves at the top, with Johnson earning the new title of number one player in the class.

In the 247Sports Composite rankings though, Jackson is the top player for the class of 2024.

Of those four players at the top, Kentucky is recruiting Cunningham, Jackson and Johnson.

Kentucky visited Cunningham — a star in the Overtime Elite program in Atlanta — on Tuesday. Cunningham doesn’t yet have a Kentucky scholarship offer.

UK visited Jackson — who is a strong candidate to reclassify to the 2023 recruiting class — on Tuesday.

As for the top man, Kentucky was expected to go three-deep for a visit to Johnson on Monday, with head coach John Calipari and assistant coaches Chin Coleman and K.T. Turner all expected to meet with Johnson.
