Rivals.com ranked the top contenders for star basketball recruit Mackenzie Mgbako on Tuesday, and it’s clear that the pursuit of the New Jersey standout is shaping up as another Kentucky-Duke battle.

National analyst Rob Cassidy ranked the Blue Devils at No. 1 and the Wildcats at No. 2 in Mgbako’s recruitment, which is not expected to end for several more months. Duke has long been considered the favorite to land the 6-foot-8 wing, but UK did host him for an official visit in October, a trip that also included grassroots teammate DJ Wagner, another major Wildcats target. Mgbako also took official visits to Duke and Memphis in the fall.

Mgbako is the No. 2 overall player in the latest class of 2023 rankings from Rivals.com, and UK has continued to recruit him among its top targets from that group despite the persistent buzz that the Blue Devils are the team to beat. Be sure to read the full top-5 ranking of Mgbako’s top college choices from Rivals.com.
