Practices for the Nike Hoop Summit began earlier this week with three Kentucky basketball recruiting targets representing the World team. By tip-off time, there was only one potential Wildcat on the court.

Canadian forward Leonard Miller — a 6-foot-10 prospect in the 2022 class — had 11 points, five rebounds, two assists and two blocks in 18 minutes in the World team’s 102-80 loss to a squad representing USA Basketball in the annual showcase Friday night. Miller, who has a perimeter game and went 2-for-4 from three-point range Friday, is a late-blooming recruit from the Toronto area and still considering both professional and American college options for next season. John Calipari traveled to Canada last month to see him workout, and the Cats are still listed as a possible landing spot.

Matas Buzelis— a 6-foot-9 wing from Chicago with a UK scholarship offer for the 2023 class — was also on the World roster but suffered a minor injury during a Hoop Summit practice and did not play Friday night. Longtime Kentucky target Mackenzie Mgbako played for the World team, but he committed to Duke about an hour before the game.

The USA Basketball roster of recruits featured commitments for Arkansas, Baylor, Duke, Houston, Kansas, Texas, Oregon, UCLA and Villanova (but no Kentucky signees). Villanova signee Cam Whitmore led the USA squad with 19 points.
