Kentucky sends out new offers to several recruits. And the top UK basketball links.
As expected, five-star forward Ron Holland landed a scholarship offer from the Kentucky Wildcats during his official visit to UK earlier this week. The 6-foot-8 prospect from Texas is the No. 9 overall player in the 2023 class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings, and the Cats are expected to be one of the teams at the top of his list now that they’ve offered.
Over the past couple of weeks, the Herald-Leader has talked to Holland and his Nike league travel coach about his game and his recruitment. Holland announced his offer from UK on Wednesday, which also happened to be the first day that college coaches could contact recruits from the 2024 class directly.
A few players from that group received immediate scholarship offers from Kentucky:
▪ New York shooting guard Ian Jackson is the No. 2 overall player in the 2024 class, though he has been looking at the option to reclassify to 2023. The Cats would clearly like to have him in whichever class he ends up choosing, and Kentucky is one of the current favorites in his recruitment. It’s worth noting that national recruiting expert Andrew Slater reported Wednesday that Jackson intends to stay in the 2024 class.
▪ Texas shooting guard Tre Johnson is the No. 3 overall prospect in the 2024 class and has been on Kentucky’s watch list for several months. Now that he has an offer from UK, expect the Cats to vault into the top tier of his list, as well.
▪ California shooting guard Isaiah Elohim also landed a Kentucky scholarship offer Wednesday, two days after getting one from Louisville. Ranked as the No. 4 overall player in the 2024 class, Elohim certainly has the potential to contend for the No. 1 spot in the group.
▪ Florida wing Karter Knox, the younger brother of former Kentucky star Kevin Knox, received an offer from the Wildcats on Wednesday. He’s the No. 10 overall player in the class, and Knox and his father talked to the Herald-Leader recently about their relationship with the Kentucky program.
