Here’s the 2021 Lexington All-City Girls’ Soccer Team
Lafayette’s Brooke Dawahare is Player of the Year in Lexington girls’ high school soccer, according to votes gathered by the Herald-Leader for the 2021 All-City Girls’ Soccer Team from the city’s nine coaches.
Dawahare, a sophomore midfielder, has been heralded by TopDrawerSoccer.com as one of the nation’s top 150 players in the class of 2024 and was part of the U.S. National Team U16 camp last spring. For Lafayette, she scored 10 goals with eight assists in helping the Generals to a runner-up finish in the 43rd District and its second consecutive berth in the 11th Region tournament.
Earlier this month, Dawahare shared co-region player of the year honors with Lexington Catholic’s Katherine Truitt, a central defender who finished just behind Dawahare in the all-city vote. This is the second consecutive year a Lafayette player has earned city player of the year.
Lexington Catholic, the 43rd District and 11th Region champion, placed four of its players on the first team, the most of any school, with Emily Scanlon, Olivia Bretz and Laura Banahan joining Truitt. LexCath’s Sophie Skinner earned second-team honors.
Lafayette forward Campbell Tippey, also a sophomore, joined Dawahare on the first team. Henry Clay, the 42nd District champ and 11th Region runner-up, was the only other team with two first-team honorees — Haley Flynn and Addison Kenny. Rounding out top honors were Sayre goalkeeper Catherine “Cat” Graves, Frederick Douglass’ Haley Buckman and Paul Laurence Dunbar’s Eva Blackman.
Here are Lexington’s 2021 All-City Girls’ Soccer Teams. Players were nominated and voted on by the city’s coaches, who ranked their first- and second-team choices with 22 points allotted to their player of the year, 21 to the next player, etc.
