Sixteen teams are headed for the girls’ high school basketball state tournament at Rupp Arena in Lexington this week, and we now know all their names.
Two regional championship games were decided Friday and 13 on Saturday with the remaining one wrapped up Sunday.
Those 16 champions fill a winner-take-all, single-elimination bracket to decide the state champion Wednesday through Saturday.
Four first-round games are set for Wednesday followed by another four Thursday. The quarterfinals are Friday. The semifinals and championship game will take place Saturday.

Sacred Heart Academy in Louisville has won the tournament each of the past four years.
Region champions to qualify for the field Friday were: Cooper (9th Region) and Johnson Central (15th).
Region champions to qualify for the field Saturday were: Marshall County (1st Region), Henderson County (2nd), Franklin-Simpson (4th), Taylor County (5th), Mercy Academy (6th), Sacred Heart (7th), Simon Kenton (8th), George Rogers Clark (10th), Frederick Douglass (11th), Danville Christian (12th), North Laurel (13th), Knott County Central (14th) and Ashland Blazer (16th).
Daviess County (3rd Region) advanced to the Sweet 16 on Sunday. The Owensboro school will be making its first-ever appearance in the Sweet 16 this week.
In addition to Sacred Heart, five schools from last year’s Sweet 16 are making repeat visits: Cooper, Danville Christian, George Rogers Clark, Henderson County and North Laurel.
Fans will also be able to watch several of Kentucky’s top seniors in action this week. Seven finalists for the 2025 Kentucky Miss Basketball award have earned a crack at a state championship in Rupp Arena, including Ciara Byars of George Rogers Clark, LaReesha Cawthorn of Franklin-Simpson, ZaKiyah Johnson of Sacred Heart, Grace Mbugua of Danville Christian, Kyra McAlarnis of Knott County Central, Brooke Nichelson of North Laurel and Kenleigh Woods of Ashland Blazer.
The Sweet 16 field also includes a pair of top-100 national recruits in Sacred Heart senior ZaKiyah Johnson and George Rogers Clark senior Ciara Byars. Johnson is rated No. 13 and Byars No. 65 in the ESPN HoopGurlz class of 2025 rankings.
