Sixteen teams are headed for the boys’ high school basketball state tournament at Rupp Arena in Lexington next week, and we now know all their names.
The last two regional championships were decided Wednesday night after four champions were crowned Tuesday and 10 others last week.
Those 16 champions fill a winner-take-all, single-elimination bracket to decide the state champion March 26-29.
Four first-round games are set for Wednesday, March 26 followed by another four Thursday, March 27. The quarterfinals are Friday, March 28. The semifinals and championship game will take place Saturday, March 29.

Lyon County High School from Eddyville, led by now University of Kentucky guard Travis Perry, won the 2024 state championship but will not be back to defend its title after falling 59-55 to Henderson County in the 2nd Region semifinals.
Region champions to qualify for the Sweet 16 field Wednesday night were: Bowling Green (4th Region) and Montgomery County (10th). Earning their spots Tuesday night were Henderson County (2nd Region), Adair County (5th), South Oldham (8th) and Cooper (9th).
The 10 who qualified last week were Calloway County (1st Region), Daviess County (3rd), Jeffersontown (6th), St. Xavier (7th), Great Crossing (11th), Danville Christian (12th), North Laurel (13th), Breathitt County (14th), Lawrence County (15th) and Ashland Blazer (16th)
The Boys’ Sweet 16 was delayed a week this season to allow Rupp Arena to host men’s NCAA Tournament games this week.
Only three schools from last year’s Sweet 16 are making repeat visits: Great Crossing, Adair County and Ashland Blazer.
Fans will also be able to watch several of Kentucky’s top seniors in action this week. Five finalists for the 2025 Kentucky Mr. Basketball award have earned a crack at a state championship in Rupp Arena, including Jonah Butler (Calloway County), Zander Carter (Ashland Blazer, Andy Johnson (Cooper), Connor Loy (Adair County) and Malachi Moreno (Great Crossing).
Moreno was named winner of the 2025 Kentucky Mr. Basketball award on Sunday night.
The Sweet 16 field also includes two of Kentucky’s highest-ranked recruits in the class of 2025 in Great Crossing’s Moreno and Cooper’s Johnson. Moreno, ranked No. 28 nationally in the 247Sports Composite, has signed with Kentucky. Cooper’s Johnson is ranked No. 6 in the state and will play collegiately at Illinois-Chicago.
