Here are the 2025 Lexington All-City boys basketball teams and player of the year
The Lexington Herald-Leader and Kentucky.com are proud to present the 2025 All-City boys high school basketball teams and player of the year as voted on by the nine coaches of Lexington’s varsity KHSAA programs.
The boys Lexington Player of the Year goes to Amari Owens of Bryan Station, a 6-foot point guard who averaged 22.5 points and 4.2 rebounds per game this season in helping the Defenders win the 42nd District championship and reach 11th Region semifinals.
Owens narrowly edged Frederick Douglass junior guard DeMarcuss Surratt for top All-City honors, garnering four top player votes to Surratt’s two. Lexington Christian’s Saxton Howard also got two top player votes, but was farther down other ballots. Sayre’s Brock Coffman got the other top nod.
Lexington’s nine varsity boys basketball coaches were asked to nominate players for All-City consideration. Later, the coaches were asked to rank, one through 10, their top players from that list of nominees. They were not permitted to vote for their own players.
Point values were assigned to each voting position (10 points for first-place votes, nine points for second-place votes, etc.) and the accumulation of those points was used to create the first and second teams. Per tradition, each team is limited to three All-City honorees. First-team honorees are listed with voting totals plus first-place votes in parentheses.
