Lexington Catholic’s Abby Hammond is Miss Softball; All-State honors announced
Lexington Catholic’s Abby Hammond has been named the 2025 Miss Softball by the Kentucky Softball Coaches Association as it released the results of its All-State, players of the year and coaching staffs of the year votes on social media Saturday night.
Hammond, a senior Kentucky signee, is a two-time Kentucky Gatorade player of the year (2022, 2024) and helped lead the Knights to the state finals as a freshman and two 11th Region championships during her five-year varsity career as one of the top pitchers and hitters in the state.
This season, Hammond hit .367 with seven home runs as LexCath’s leadoff hitter while going 14-6 with 188 strikeouts and a 0.81 earned run average for a young team that struggled early in the season but went on to finish 16-9 and claim its second straight 43rd District title, the third in her career as the team’s primary starter.
Over her career, Hammond hit .467 with 49 home runs and 158 RBIs as she amassed a record of 118-28 with 1,320 strikeouts and a 0.82 ERA in the circle. Her win and strikeout totals should earn her a place among the top 20 all-time in those categories in the KHSAA record book once it’s updated.
Joining Hammond as a KSCA All-State First Team honoree from Lexington was Bryan Station’s Karysyn Rockvoan, a junior pitcher who passed 1,000 strikeouts for her career this season. Frederick Douglass’ Haley McGuire and Lafayette’s Rylan Music earned second-team honors. Also from Central Kentucky’s 11th Region, Scott County’s Ada Little made the first team and Lauren Jones was an honorable mention.
While Kentucky high school softball does not have a classification system based on enrollment as football, cross country and track and field do, the KSCA divides its All-State and other honorees into three classes.
Its largest class, Class 3A, contained Rockvoan, McGuire and Music. Hammond was named first-team all-state in Class 2A.
South Warren’s Layla Ogden, a junior Western Kentucky commit, earned Class 3A’s player of the year. Ogden tied the state record for home runs in a season with 24 this year. The Spartans also earned Class 3A coaching staff of the year honors.
Harrison County’s Isabella Persinger was named Class 2A player of the year with Warren East taking coaching staff of the year. Livingston Central’s Addison Tramble earned Class A player of the year with her coaching staff also earning honors.
The KSCA awards will be presented Saturday during the organization’s annual East/West All-Star Series weekend in Bowling Green.
