Here are the 2020 Lexington All-City boys’ basketball teams and player of the year
The Lexington Herald-Leader and Kentucky.com are proud to present the 2019-2020 All-City boys’ high school basketball teams and player of the year as voted on by the nine coaches of Lexington’s varsity KHSAA programs.
Henry Clay’s Marques Warrick, a 6-foot-3 guard committed to Northern Kentucky University, earned six of the nine first-place votes and is this season’s All-City Player of the Year. Warrick led the Blue Devils in scoring with 23.2 points to go with 4.8 rebounds per game.
Second in the balloting was Lexington Catholic junior guard Ben Johnson, who received two first-place votes. Johnson led the Knights with 25.6 points per game and ranked fifth in the state in scoring. Lafayette’s Ray Surratt, a 6-9 senior forward, received the other first-place vote and joins Warrick and Johnson on the All-City First Team along with Frederick Douglass junior Dashawn Jackson and Tates Creek senior Amari Taylor.
The nine KHSAA boys’ basketball coaches in Lexington were asked to nominate three players from their team for All-City consideration. Later, the coaches were asked to rank, one through 10, their top players from that list of nominees (they were not permitted to vote for their own players). Point values were assigned to each voting position (10 points for first-place votes, nine points for second-place votes, etc.) and the accumulation of those points was used to create the first and second teams.
