Keeneland

The Breeders’ Cup returns to Keeneland this fall. Here’s the latest on how to get tickets.

Fans denied the opportunity attend a Breeders’ Cup in Lexington because of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 will have that chance in 2022, and it’s time to start making plans for obtaining tickets to Thoroughbred racing’s World Championships at Keeneland this fall.

The 39th annual event is schedule for Nov. 4-5. Breeders’ Cup officials announced Monday that tickets will go on sale May 9 at noon EDT at BreedersCup.com/2022.

“We couldn’t be more excited to return to Keeneland for the 39th running of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships,” Breeders’ Cup President and CEO Drew Fleming said in a news release. “As the 2020 World Championships at Keeneland were held without fans due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we eagerly await the opportunity to return to Lexington in full force in support of local racing fans, businesses, and members of the Thoroughbred industry who are the backbone of our sport.”

Kentucky Derby winner Authentic won the $6 million Breeders’ Cup Classic in 2020 at Keeneland during a weekend of championship racing witnessed by only “racing participants and essential personnel.” That crowd somehow reached into the hundreds but was nothing like the first time Keeneland hosted in 2015, when American Pharoah burnished a Triple Crown season by winning the Classic in front of more than 50,000 spectators.

That is the atmosphere Lexington missed out on in 2020 and hopes makes a comeback in 2022. Keeneland officials expect high ticket demand and encourage those interested in attending to visit BreedersCup.com/2022 now to sign up to receive the latest ticket information and news.

As announced in September 2020, fans who purchased tickets to the 2020 Breeders’ Cup have the right to repurchase the same or similar seats as they had previously, and that process is currently underway. Anyone who bought Breeders’ Cup tickets in 2020 and has not yet received emails from the Breeders’ Cup Ticketing Department should call (859) 514-9428 or email Tickets@BreedersCup.com for assistance.

The Breeders’ Cup annually presents 14 championship races over two days totaling more than $31 million in purses. The event rotates among tracks around the nation. In 2021 at Del Mar in California, Knicks Go held off Kentucky Derby winner Medina Spirit to win the Breeders’ Cup Classic.
