Kentucky-Georgia history and trends

The Bulldogs have won their past 15 games against the Wildcats.

UK coach Mark Stoops is 0-12 against Georgia.

Georgia head man Kirby Smart is 9-0 versus Kentucky.

Georgia had a 33-game home winning streak snapped Saturday night by Alabama.

Most recent Kentucky-Georgia football game

No. 1 Georgia escaped a determined Kentucky upset bid, pulling out a 13-12 victory before 61,663 fans at Kroger Field on Sept. 14, 2024.

Bulldogs running back Branson Robinson scored the game’s only touchdown, a 3-yard run with 12:20 left in the contest that put Georgia ahead 13-9.

All of Kentucky’s points came on Alex Raynor field goals of 55, 32, 40 and 51 yards. The 55-yard field goal was a UK school record.

After the game, Wildcats coach Mark Stoops was criticized by many for deciding to punt when Kentucky, down one point, had the ball fourth-and-8 from the Georgia 47 with 3:09 left in the contest.

UK suffered a tough break in the first half when Wildcats safety Zion Childress returned an apparent interception of Carson Beck 55 yards for a touchdown — only to see the replay official overturn the play on review by ruling the ball had hit the ground prior to Childress securing the pick.

Georgia won in spite of being outgained 284 to 262 yards by Kentucky.

Kentucky-Georgia: Three things to know

1. First-year Georgia starting quarterback Gunner Stockton has performed well so far in 2025. The 6-foot-1, 215-pound junior from Tiger, Georgia, is completing 69.7% of his passes and has thrown for 851 yards in four games with five touchdown throws. Stockton has yet to throw an interception this season.

The Georgia QB can also make plays with his legs. Stockton has run for 146 yards and three scores.

In the loss to Alabama, Stockton completed 13 of 20 passes for a season-low 130 yards with a TD pass. He also ran five times for 22 yards.

2. Since Kirby Smart was hired as Georgia head man in 2016, Kentucky has only played the Bulldogs within single digits twice.

In 2016, Rodrigo Blankenship booted a 25-yard field goal just ahead of the final horn to give the Dawgs a 27-24 win at UK.

Last year (see above), UK fell by one to Georgia, also in Lexington.

Other than those two losses, Kentucky’s average margin of defeat to Georgia in the Kirby Smart coaching era is 20.3 points per game.

Georgia coach Kirby Smart, left, is 9-0 against Kentucky. UK head man Mark Stoops, right, is 0-12 against the Bulldogs. Overall, Kentucky football has lost its last 15 games to Georgia.

3. Kentucky’s most recent win over Georgia came at Sanford Stadium. On Nov. 21, 2009, UK running back Derrick Locke caught two touchdown passes and wide receiver Randall Cobb ran for two scores as coach Rich Brooks and the Wildcats rallied from 27-13 down to win 34-27.

UK won in spite of being outgained by a whopping 487-260 yards. The Cats prevailed in large part because they did not turn the ball over while Georgia lost two fumbles and threw two interceptions.

Brooks was also the Kentucky head man the most recent time the Cats beat the Dawgs in Lexington. Behind 204 passing yards and two touchdown throws from Andre Woodson, UK defeated Georgia 24-20 on Nov. 4, 2006. Trevard Lindley, from Hiram, Georgia, sealed the UK victory with an interception of Bulldogs quarterback Matthew Stafford with 50 seconds left in the game.
