In addition to my column on new Louisville football coach Scott Satterfield, here’s a look at Appalachian State’s numbers during his time as head coach there.

The Mountaineers transitioned from an FCS school to an FBS school during his tenure. Appalachian State was in the FCS Southern Conference in 2013, Satterfield’s first season as head coach. ASU moved to the FBS Sun Belt Conference in 2014, so that’s where the numbers begin.

It’s official, Scott Satterfield is Louisville’s new coach

Even though Satterfield’s background is playing and coaching offense, look at the defensive numbers at Appalachian State during his tenure. This season, the Mountaineers were ranked in the top 10 nationally in scoring defense, pass efficiency defense and total defense.

Compare that to Louisville. The Cardinals ranked 121st in pass efficiency defense, 122nd in total defense, 127th in rushing defense and 128th in scoring defense.
