Why did Arkansas fans boo UK’s Davion Mintz on Saturday?

You might have noticed that in Kentucky’s 75-73 loss at Bud Walton Arena on Saturday, Arkansas fans booed UK guard Davion Mintz every time he touched the basketball.

Why? Had Mintz done something to make the Arkansas faithful upset? Had he said something to rile up the Razorbacks?

Brooks Holton of the Courier Journal got to the bottom of it.

Turns out an Arkansas fan account on Twitter picks an opposing player each game for the fans at Bud Walton to boo the full 40 minutes. The account @BooThisGuyAtBud picked Mintz for the Kentucky game.

Not saying the tactic worked, but Mintz failed to score during his 19 minutes on the floor. The Creighton transfer missed his only two shot attempts. Both were from three-point range. He had two assists, two turnovers, one rebound and one steal.

It was just Mintz’s third scoreless game of the season and first since Jan. 29 at Kansas.

On the season, Mintz is averaging 8.7 points per game. He’s shooting 38.1 percent from the floor, including 34.9 percent from three-point range. He’s shooting 75.5 percent from the foul line.
