SEC men’s basketball schedule and standings heading into a big week

My colleague Ben Roberts writes that this is the most important week of the Kentucky basketball season.

It’s an important week for all SEC men’s basketball teams. Six games to go. Many teams on the bubble. In fact, through Sunday’s games, there were six SEC teams ranked between No. 33 and No. 53 in the NCAA NET computer rankings. Texas A&M was at No. 33, Auburn at No. 35, Mississippi State at No. 41, Missouri at No. 45, Kentucky at No. 46 and Florida at No. 53.

As for the league standings, Alabama is unbeaten at 12-0, followed by Texas A&M at 10-2 and Tennessee 8-4. After that, there are six teams with records of either 7-5 or 6-6. Remember, the first four teams in the league standings earn a double-bye in the SEC Tournament from March 8-12 in Nashville.

Hot: Now No. 1-ranked Alabama has won 12 of its last 13 games. (The loss came in a non-conference game.) Mississippi State has won five in a row heading into it’s Wednesday game with visiting Kentucky. Missouri and Texas A&M have won five of their last six. Vanderbilt has won three straight games.

Not: LSU has lost 12 in a row. Auburn has lost three in a row and five of its last six. Florida has lost three in a row and four of its last five. Tennessee has lost three of its last four.
