The 14th Lexington Comic & Toy Convention continues to build on its reputation year after year.
The popular LexCon offers a little something for everyone, no matter your age or pop culture affinity. The four-day event keeps comic book fans and collectors pleased with lots of vendors and comic creators. But a lot of fans are there for the chance to meet, talk and get a selfie with the impressive list of celebrities from TV, movies, comics and more.
Below is a list and guide of 10 of the best celebrities coming to this year’s convention at the Central Bank Center and their meet-and-greets price for autographs and photo ops. Warning, some high-profile stars are selling out or have limited spots available. Be sure to book in advance online.
Christopher Lloyd: 1.21 Gigawatts of star power
Fans of the “Back to the Future” movie franchise will certainly be ready to go back to Lexington Comic Con (or venture their for the first time) for the chance to meet Christopher Lloyd, the iconic actor behind the quirky and lovable time-traveling scientist Emmett “Doc” Brown. Of course, the actor has a long list of notable roles outside of a flying DeLorean that will cause fans to turn up, whether it’s the chance to meet the man behind Uncle Fester in the 1991 adaptation of “The Addams Family” or “Reverend” Jim Ignatowski from the award-winning comedy series “Taxi.”
Photo op price: $135, $235 with a DeLorean
Cheech and Chong: A legendary and smoking duo
The duo that combined cannabis and comedy to become counterculture movie icons will be appearing at this year’s convention. Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong, a.k.a. Cheech and Chong (“Up in Smoke,” “Still Smokin’”...you get the idea), will both be ready to greet long-time fans together to discuss their comedy albums and their cult classics from the ‘70s and ‘80s and what might be coming next.
Photo op price: $105 each actor separately, $195 with both
The gift that keeps on giving, Randy Quaid
Whether he’s wreaking havoc on the septic system as Cousin Eddie in the “National Lampoon’s Vacation” films or doing heroic acts to save the world as an inebriated pilot in the sci-fi blockbuster “Independence Day,” actor Randy Quaid has racked up plenty of memorable roles over a long filmography. From earning an Oscar nomination playing opposite Jack Nicholson in 1973’s “The Last Detail” to portraying President Lyndon B. Johnson (“LBJ: The Early Years”) and Elvis Presley manager Colonel Tom Parker (2005’s “Elvis” miniseries), Quaid will certainly have a variety of fans show up in appreciation for his career.
Photo op price: $125, $225 with “Vacation” co-star Beverly D’Angelo
Patrick Warburton: From ‘Seinfeld’ to voice acting legend
While the actor’s on-screen roles will forever live on as Elaine’s annoying boyfriend David Puddy in “Seinfeld” and as the big blue, bumbling superhero as the title character in the comic-book-to-sitcom adaptation of “The Tick,” Patrick Warburton will be bombarded by fans across the pop culture spectrum thanks to an instantly recognizable voice that’s popped up in a lot of places. Whether he played Kronk in Disney’s “The Emperor’s New Groove,” the powerful paraplegic Joe Swanson in FOX’s “Family Guy,” or the cocky clydesdale mayor in what is now the highest-grossing Hollywood animated movie of all time, “Zootopia 2,” Warburton is sure to give fans what they came for from the very first word. Bonus Warburton: he will be at Lexington’s Comedy Off Broadway for one night May 11.
Photo op price: $165
Giancarlo Esposito: The ‘big bad’ of ‘Breaking Bad’ and ‘The Mandalorian’
If you are talking about actors that have played some of the most unforgettable small-screen villains this century (or some would argue, maybe ever), Giancarlo Esposito certainly is on that short list or even at the top of it. He was Walter White’s archnemesis as drug dealer/chicken restaurant owner Gus Fring on “Breaking Bad,” and he was a key part of the Galactic Empire hunting for The Mandalorian’s adorable sidekick Grogu in the Star Wars series “The Mandalorian.” These roles only scratch the surface of his successful career on stage and screen that spans almost six decades (which his most ardent fans will surely be happy to discuss).
Photo op price: $125
‘Yu-Gi-Oh!’ voice actors Dan Green and Eric Stuart
It wouldn’t be a Lexington Comic Con without securing a few big-name voiceover talent from the world of Japanese anime. In this case, that would be Dan Green (Yugi/Muto/Yami Yugi/Pharaoh Atem) and Eric Stuart (Seto Kaiba), American voice actors who played key roles in dubbing the popular Japanese anime “Yu-Gi-Oh!” into English and bringing it to a worldwide audience.
Photo op price: $85 each
Maggie Lawson: Kentucky native known for ‘Psych,’ Hallmark movies
It’s not often we have a homegrown Kentuckian in the mix of celebs, but Maggie Lawson was born and raised in Louisville. Early on in her hometown, she was a youth correspondent on WDRB Fox 41’s “Kid’s Club.” She is known for playing Juliet O’Hara (Jules) in the TV show “Psych” and its movies. She also starred sitcoms like “Crumbs,” “It’s All Relative” and “Inside Schwartz.” If you’re a fan of Hallmark movies, you might have seen her in several of the popular films.
Photo op price: $85
‘Boba Fett? Boba Fett? Where?’
Those dressed as Han Solo might be asking that this weekend and the good news is there’s many of them coming, in fact three different actors who played the famous “Star Wars” character. Temuera Morrison, who played a space bounty hunter Jango Fett in “Star Wars: Episode II — Attack of the Clones” and Boba in the Disney series, “The Book of Boba Fett” will be at the convention Friday-Sunday. As will the actor who played his younger cloned self in “Attack of the Clones,” Daniel Logan. And finally, voice actor Dee Bradley Baker (”American Dad,” Phineas and Ferb,” “Sponge Bob SquarePants” and more) rounds out the trifecta of Fetts. He voiced Jango and Boba in various video games and “The Clone Wars” animated series.
Photo op price: Temuera Morrison $85; Daniel Logan $85; together $195; Dee Bradley Baker $65
A ‘Powerpuff’ and ‘Fairly Odd’ reunion
It turns out that two popular animated series from the 2000s and 2010s have a few connections that make in-demand reunions happen in the Central Bank Center. Voice actors from the Cartoon Network’s “The Powerpuff Girls” and Nickelodeon’s “The Fairly OddParents!” will both be on hand this weekend, including Tara Strong (Bubbles, Timmy Turner, Poof), Tom Kane (Professor Utonium), Catherine Cavadini (Blossom) Susanne Blakeslee (Wanda, Anti-Wanda, Mrs. Turner), E.G. Daily (Buttercup), Butch Hartman (“The Fairly OddParents!” series creator) and Daran Norris (Cosmo, Anti-Cosmo, Mr. Turner, Jorgen Von Strangle).
Photo op price: Tara Strong $85; Tom Kane $85; Catherine Cavadini $85; Susanne Blakeslee $65; Butch Hartman $65; Daran Norris $65; Fairly Odd parents (Strong, Blakeslee, Norris and Hartman) $230
Roy Thomas: A true icon of the comic art form
Stepping in to succeed Stan Lee as Marvel Comics’ editor-in-chief is not an enviable position, but that is exactly what Roy Thomas did. In addition to his work on “The Avengers,” “X-Men,” and taking Conan the Barbarian from the pulp magazine pages to the comic book pages, he also helped to create heroes ranging from Vision, Ultron, Ghost Rider and Luke Cage to Iron Fist, Banshee and Valkyrie. Needless to say, local comic book fans probably have a few excited questions to ask.
