Distillers know that not every aging warehouse is the same.
Wild Turkey, through its award-winning Russell’s Reserve, is celebrating the ones that make its whiskey extra special. The Single Rickhouse collection, now in its fourth edition, explores whiskey “terroir” and how the exact location can shape the flavor profile.
The latest release of Russell’s Reserve Single Rickhouse 2025 celebrates one that is unique, Camp Nelson warehouse E.
Chosen by master distiller Eddie Russell and his team, this warehouse has an entirely different environment from other Single Rickhouse releases, according to the news release.
It’s an iconic rickhouse built in 1946, deep in trees on the edge of Camp Nelson closer to the Kentucky River than any other on the campus. Its location along the river results in different wind patterns off the river and cool shade throughout the year. With a dirt-floor “basement” level helps create a cool microclimate that is a contrast to the heights of Camp Nelson B featured in last year’s release.
The 2025 Single Rickhouse barrels were chosen from the fifth floor of the seven-story rickhouse, where the cooler environment creates more nuanced flavor.
Bottled at barrel proof at 128, it is the highest-proof Russell’s Reserve release to date.
“Camp Nelson E is one of the most interesting aging environments we have, completely different from where we’ve pulled from in the past,” Russell said in the release. “The barrels from the fifth floor have this beautiful balance of dark fruit, baking spice, and rich oak that felt true to Russell’s Reserve, but also completely its own. That’s exactly what this series is about — celebrating the uniqueness of each rickhouse and how it helps shape the whiskey we love.”
According to the tasting notes, it has a nose of vanilla, caramel and maple then transitions to figs, dried orange peel, cola and toasted oak. On the palate, it’s dried fruit, cherry and mint followed by Graham cracker and nutmeg spice with a warm, long-lasting finish of sweet oak, molasses and hints of black pepper.
Russell’s Reserve Single Rickhouse Camp Nelson E is now available for a limited time with a suggested retail price of $300 for a 750mL bottle at select retailers in the U.S. as well as at the Wild Turkey Distiller Visitors Center in Lawrenceburg.
It also will be featured as part of a special vertical tasting of the Single Rickhouse Collection on Oct. 27, hosted by associated master blender Bruce Russell. Subscribe to the Russell’s Reserve email list at RussellsReserve.com for details and ticket availability.
