The expanded Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort is also growing its line of whiskeys: Sazerac Rye Full Proof is here.

The new version is a result of last year’s $1.2 billion expansion of Buffalo Trace Distillery, according to the company. With the addition of the second still, Buffalo Trace is able to produce more of their signature bourbon and rye whiskeys, the company said.

“We’re excited to bring another full proof option to fans after they’ve expressed their love for our W.L. Weller and Benchmark full proof offerings,” said master distiller Harlen Wheatley in a news release. “Our expansion took 10 years in the making, and it’s rewarding to see how it’s already allowing us to create more of these whiskeys while maintaining the quality our fans expect.”

How does Sazerac Rye Full Proof taste?

According to the tasting notes, Sazerac Rye Whiskey Full Proof has a nose of rye spice, fresh dill and smoky oak. On the palate, it’s smooth and sweet with floral and herbal notes, rich oak and classic rye grain and a lightly peppery, spicy finish.

The Sazerac Rye Full Proof is 125 proof and has an intense spicey, peppery flavor. It will be available in the Buffalo Trace Distillery gift shop on Nov. 14-16 and a premium rye whiskey tasting is available that includes the Sazerac rye from the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection.

“Rye whiskey is the perfect next step for whiskey drinkers looking for more flavor. Sazerac Rye’s unique, balanced, Kentucky-style recipe makes it the brand whiskey drinkers have trusted for years,” says Andrew Duncan, global brand director at Buffalo Trace Distillery. “Sazerac Rye Full Proof amplifies the brand’s floral notes of vanilla and clove, along with fruity hints of orange, with just a touch of pepper, proving that rye whiskeys aren’t just great in cocktails — they shine on their own.”

Sazerac Rye Whiskey Full Proof will be available in select markets beginning in November at select retailers, bars and restaurants with a suggested retail price of $39.99 for a 750 mL bottle.

Buffalo Trace Distillery said that the new Sazerac Rye Whiskey Full Proof line extension was made possible by the $1.2 billion 10-year expansion of the distillery in Frankfort, Ky., that double distilling capacity.
