That’s a bargain: Pours of premium bourbons such as Pappy Van Winkle 20 Year are sometimes listed for hundreds of dollars in pricey restaurants.

Doors to the watering hole open at noon at 833 Euclid Ave.; everyone in line gets a numbered wristband. The first 100 people in the door are guaranteed a taste of something from the Pappy Van Winkle family. The inn also has other premium bourbons available for those in line who do not receive a pour of Pappy.

Pours are limited to one per person, and prices are as follows:

  • Old Rip Van Winkle Distillery 10 Year: $10 plus $5 donation
  • Van Winkle Special Reserve 12 Year “Lot B:” $12 plus $5 donation
  • Pappy Van Winkle 15 Year: $15 plus $5 donation
  • Pappy Van Winkle Rye: $15 plus $5 donation

The bar is asking for a minimum donation of $5 per pour, but will take more. Donations go to Operation Secret Santa, a local grassroots organization of volunteers who raise money to provide Christmas gifts and pantry boxes for Central Kentucky families in need.

The Chevy Chase Inn has done “Brown Friday,” an ode to the bourbon, before. In 2023, the bar celebrated 90 years in business with “Pappy Anniversary” shots at cost. Customers lined up down the sidewalk along Euclid well in advance of the noon bar opening.
