Coronavirus claims another Lexington restaurant, this time at Fayette Mall
Another Lexington restaurant that shuttered during the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown won’t be coming back: Bar Louie at Fayette Mall is closed.
The restaurant closed in March when Gov. Andy Beshear ordered all restaurants and bars to close to dining in.
Fayette Mall spokeswoman Sarah Robinson confirmed Tuesday that it will not be reopening. No word on what might go into the space opposite The Cheesecake Factory.
The restaurant owners did not immediately return a call for comment on why they closed.
It’s the latest Lexington restaurant added to the list of coronavirus casualties in the hospitality industry, joining Locals’, Nick Ryan’s, TGI Friday’s, Edley’s Bar-B-Que, both Denny’s locations, The Barn at The Summit food hall, Gather on Main, Josie’s in Georgetown and Spotz Gelato downtown, with more still in limbo.
The Bar Louie chain filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization in January and closed dozens of underperforming locations in Ohio, Wisconsin, Michigan and Colorado.
But the Lexington location stayed open until March. It opened in the summer of 2017 with a menu of local craft beer, specialty burgers and cocktails and more.
It was the second time Bar Louie came to town: As recently as 2010 there was a Bar Louie franchise at Lexington Green.
The mall location was also the scene of a shooting in July 2019. Three people apparently were shot outside the restaurant in the parking lot.
