New restaurant coming to Hamburg-area after fire destroyed Cheddar’s location
A Lexington restaurant lost to a fire in 2020 is going to make a comeback.
The Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen at 3094 Helmsdale Place, just off Man o’War Boulevard on the east side of town, closed after a major fire in May.
Now a remodeling permit has been filed with the city to fix the building back up. But it won’t be coming back as a Cheddar’s.
It will be a new Olive Garden, according to paperwork filed last week. The 8,400-square-foot building in Brighton Place Shoppes in the Andover area near Hamburg will undergo a renovation valued at $750,000, according to the filing.
There was no immediate response to a request for comment from the company that filed the permit or from Olive Garden’s corporate spokesperson.
Lexington also has an Olive Garden on Nicholasville Road outside Fayette Mall. That location of the Italian chain will remain open, according to a mall spokeswoman.
The May, 16 fire at Cheddar’s caused considerable damage to the building. Two Lexington firefighters also were treated for heat-related injuries.
