Lexington burger wars: One restaurant closes but another chain is expanding
One of four Burger Kings in Lexington is gone, but don’t fret, burger fans: Another popular chain is taking over the spot.
Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers is opening a second location. The Kansas-based chain opened its first Lexington location at 2500 Polo Club Blvd., near Costco and Cabela’s, in 2016.
The second one will be at 2217 Nicholasville Rd., where the Burger King has closed.
The new Freddy’s is expected to open in mid-June and will have a drive-thru as well.
Freddy’s specializes in cooked-to-order lean beef steakburgers, Vienna Beef hot dogs and shoestring fries. It’s also known for its signature desserts made with chocolate or vanilla frozen custard churned fresh several times daily.
Soon Freddy’s will have competition: Andy’s Frozen Custard is expected to open its first Kentucky location on South Broadway this summer.
