An Eastern Kentucky favorite is heading to Lexington area with fajitas, tacos and more
A new popular Mexican restaurant is coming to Central Kentucky and this time its moving in from Eastern Kentucky.
Tres Hermanos Nunez, a local chain that got its start in Grayson and Greenup, will be expanding to the Fayette-Scott county line area.
Georgetown is experiencing a surge in new restaurants, with First Watch opening recently in the former Ruby Tuesday’s location. And Texas Roadhouse opens July 12 at 1505 Paris Pike.
The Mexican restaurant will be coming to 1973 Lexington Rd., US 25, near the Kentucky Horse Park. It’s the former location of a Josie’s restaurant that closed during the coronavirus pandemic in 2020.
Co-owner William Robinson said that he hopes Tres Hermanos Nunez will open in August. It will be operated by Fabian Mendoza and Misael Nunez, the co-founder who named it for himself and two brothers.
Robinson said the restaurant has built a following in Eastern Kentucky, and has expanded to Ohio, West Virginia and soon to Indiana.
“It’s authentic Mexican, really popular in the local area. It’s a family type restaurant, the place to go where everybody goes after ballgames, or for Friday night,” Robinson said.
He hopes to replicate that success in Central Kentucky and could expand here as well.
The menu includes familiar favorites such as quesadillas, nachos, enchiladas, burritos and lots of fajitas.
Robinson fajitas are some of their biggest items. But the best-seller is something called Chicken Deluxe, described as grilled chicken strips smothered in cheese sauce.
“That’s the staple of all the teenagers in Eastern Kentucky,” Robinson said.
Tres Hermanos Nunez also will serve beer and margaritas.
It will be open daily, from 11 a.m. to about 10 p.m., he said.
