Lexington, the chicken you missed is officially back and faster than ever

Rejoice, fried chicken lovers: A popular restaurant chain is back.

Lee’s Famous Recipe Chicken, which closed all three Lexington locations abruptly in November 2019, officially reopened the restaurant at 3014 Richmond Rd. on Monday.

Known for its boneless chicken tenders, Lee’s is planning on reopening the location at 1487 Boardwalk in 2022.

Although these are the same locations that closed almost two years ago, these aren’t the same restaurants.

New franchise owners Chuck and Mindy Newnham said in March that they planned to renovate the building, giving it a new double drive-thru and an improved digital ordering system, as well as all new equipment in the kitchen too.

“We couldn’t be more excited to reopen the doors of Lee’s Famous Recipe Chicken at our Richmond Road location. We’ve heard from our neighbors how much they have missed having Lee’s nearby, and we are happy to bring our much-loved products back to our ‘famous fans,’” said Chuck Newnham, in a news release. “While our restaurant is totally remodeled, our customers can look forward to the same great quality food and fast, friendly service they have come to expect from Lee’s, plus some new items they’ll want to try.”

During the coronavirus pandemic, drive-thrus have been crucial keys to success for many restaurants and Lee’s has seen business boom.

“We knew when news of the reopening made the media in March, there would be excitement around this day and I’m thrilled to be a part of it,” said CEO Ryan Weaver in a statement. “This is one of only a handful of our franchises to have a double drive-thru offering we hope to see at more of our locations in the future. It makes ordering faster and more convenient especially during peak hours.”
