Martha Stewart loved their onion rings. So what happened to this Lexington restaurant?
A Lexington restaurant that last year hosted Martha Stewart has closed for good.
BurgerFi, the national gourmet burger concept, has shut down its location at Rose and Euclid, across from the University of Kentucky campus.
Representatives of BurgerFi did not immediately respond to a request for comment on why the restaurant closed. There also are location on Rojay Drive and Alysheba Way.
Gordy Hoagland, a spokesman for Greer Companies, which owns the Coliseum Plaza building, confirmed that the restaurant closed a few weeks ago.
No new tenant has been signed to the spot yet, he said.
After Phil and Lee Greer bought the building in 2015, it was remodeled extensively, in part to accommodate BurgerFi. The chain already had one location in Lexington near Fayette Mall and was looking to expand.
The UK campus-area BurgerFi opened in 2017 with a menu of hand-crafted burgers and fresh-cut fries as well as beer, cocktails and “concrete” frozen custard shakes.
And in March 2021, lifestyle entrepreneur Martha Stewart stopped there for a late lunch. She had a lettuce-wrapped veggie burger and some giant beer-battered onion rings: “Delish!!!” Stewart posted on her Instagram.
Stewart was in Kentucky to visit the AppHarvest tomato-growing greenhouses in Morehead. She is on the boards of both AppHarvest and BurgerFi.
