Coffee shop, restaurant known for ‘medicinal add-ons’ coming to high-profile Lexington spot
A new coffee shop is opening in a familiar location in Lexington.
The restaurant spot at 496 E. High St. that was the home of the original Ramsey’s and most recently was Ranada’s Kitchen is getting a new tenant: Far Out Espresso is moving in.
Owner Tyler Rogers said the cafe and apothecary, which recently closed in Georgetown after 3 1/2 years dues to a zoning dispute, opened in early December.
“We specialize in gourmet coffees. We’ll have a lot of good authentic Italian espresso and our frappes are really popular too,” Rogers said. He said that they also will carry Italian desserts such as tiramisu, cannoli and zeppole (a kind of Italian, bite-sized filled doughnut ball.)
The menu also will include hemp-infused baked treats as well as smoothies and teas.
In the adjacent storefront at 207 Woodland Ave., Rogers said, they will have retail sales of CBD, health products and locally roasted coffee from City Roastery in Georgetown.
And on the other side of the restaurant, he said, they’ll have a cozy patio for when things warm back up.
Rogers and his friend Luis Aguilar and fiancée Grace McCorquodale have been running the business out of horse trailer and shed in a lot in Georgetown with a psychedelic feel. They built a following for their hand-made treats and drinks. Fans expressed dismay online when Rogers announced the Georgetown shop would be closing in late November.
“Our shop is kind of ’60-’70s counter-culture themed,” he said, named for the famous catchphrase of singer-songwriter John Denver. The menu features “coffee but with a twist on it, like lots of medicinal add-ons,” he said.
He said Far Out Espresso plans to be open early mornings through late afternoon to start.
