Downtown Lexington restaurant, building sold for $1.1 million; big changes planned
A downtown Lexington restaurant and a historic building sold in December for $1.1 million. And the new owner has big plans.
Postmaster’s Pub, 307 W. Short St., sold at absolute auction, including the building, business and inventory on Dec. 10. Formerly the Village Idiot, the restaurant had reopened in March 2021 under the new name but owner Brian Behr said he was ready to move to a new project.
The sale closed in early January to Romi Singh, who said he plans to turn the ground floor into a neighborhood convenience store called Ruby’s Market and Cafe that will also serve hot food including burgers, chicken tenders and fresh-made sandwiches.
Singh and his wife own a convenience store on North Mill Street and he said they were looking for something with room for more items, similar to a neighborhood bodega.
They plan to keep the bar upstairs and reopen it under another name.
Singh said they hope to open Ruby’s Market and Cafe in late March-early April.
The building on Short Street housed Lexington’s oldest surviving post office, built in 1825.
