TikTok-famous wings, Voodoo fries coming to Lexington location near UK campus

An Internet-famous chicken wing restaurant is planning a third Lexington location before the first two are even open.

Wingstop, which is famous on TikTok and other social media for its spicy wings and Voodoo Fries, is planning to open on Woodland Avenue.

A spokesperson for Wingstop did not immediately respond to a request for comment on timing.

The Texas-based chain also is opening locations on Richmond Road and Tates Creek Road. The location at 3080 Richmond Road. was expected to open this month.

The latest location, according to a permit application filed with the city on Nov. 7, is for 384 Woodland Ave., where it will be wedged between an existing Subway and the former Lynagh’s Irish Pub.

More changes on Woodland

The former Lynagh’s in University Plaza is being remodeled into a new bar and is expected to open in early 2025.

Austin Brashear and Josh Brock, owners of Austin City Saloon, are bringing the former UK student hot spot back to life after it’s been closed for more than two years.

Brashear confirmed that Wingstop is going into what had once been a side room of Lynagh’s.

A location just down the shopping center that had been Lynagh’s music venue has reopened as 2 Fisted Willie’s, a country-themed bar and venue with a rooftop patio.

What’s special about Wingstop?

Wingstop has a menu of boneless or bone-in wings, chicken tenders and a chicken sandwich as well as sides such as hand-cut Buffalo Ranch Fries and Cajun Fried Corn.

Customers can pick from 12 signature flavors, including lemon pepper, buffalo-style original hot, hickory smoked BBQ and more. The sauces, as well as homemade ranch, bleu cheese, honey mustard and cheese sauce also can be ordered for dipping.

Lots of wings in Lexington

In Central Kentucky, Wingstop will be entering a busy chicken and wing market.

In Lexington, they will be competing with WingKYng, Buffalo Wild Wings, Golden Flame Hot Wings, Slim Chickens, Rooster, Joella’s Hot Chicken, It’s Just Wings, Shaking Seafood & Wings, Indi’s Chicken, Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken, Grimes’s Fast Food, Wing Zone and more.
