A Lexington restaurant is closed down indefinitely after a vehicle crashed through the drive-thru.

Lexington code enforcement officials condemned the building at 1832 Alysheba Way, home to the Steak ’n Shake in the Hamburg shopping center.

An inspector found the building unsafe after a Nov. 16 crash. Two people, the driver and a passenger, were arrested for suspected DUI in the crash, according to Lexington police.

The Lexington Fire Department, which assisted with the crash at about 11 p.m. Saturday, also posted an order that the building was unsafe for human occupancy and closed by the fire chief.

The restaurant is listed as temporarily closed on the Steak ’n Shake website.

According to code enforcement, Steak ’n Shake is expected to inspect the damage and get an estimate on repairs.

The building has received a 30-day condemnation and will likely not be operational until repairs are complete, according to Lee Steele, supervisor with the city’s division of code enforcement.

The fast-food restaurant location opened in late 1998.
