Nicholasville burger, wing restaurant closes. Could a move to Lexington be next?

A popular Central Kentucky fast casual restaurant closed unexpectantly, but the owner said this isn’t the end.

Bubba Grub, known for its burgers and chicken wings, closed Nov. 3 at 1001 Elizabeth St. in Nicholasville, just off U.S. 27.

Owner Landon Marsh said he is currently looking for a new spot in Lexington.

Bubba Grub opened in Oct. 2023 in a shared a building with an Amoco gas station and Jordy’s Family Restaurant, across the street from Toyota on Nicholasville, about five miles from the Fayette County line.

“Most of our following was in Lexington, and that location has always been hard to grow in,” said Marsh. “We had the following, but not enough support to keep it open.”

Bubba Grub’s menu featured single, double and triple burgers made with Angus beef. There were four specialty burgers, including one that used a doughnut for the bun. Other popular menu items included wings and a fish sandwich.

Marsh said the focus is to move the restaurant to a bigger location in Lexington, expanding the operation to include a bar.

“We just want it to be like a sports bar — burgers, wings, because we’re known for our wings,” said Marsh.

Marsh also said they don’t have a timeline to move, a location picked out or an area of town in mind. But they have meetings set up to look at possible spots.

“We’re excited,” said Marsh. “We’re sad to see that chapter closed, but we’re happy.”
