A new-to-Kentucky restaurant is ready to fire up its grill.

Firebirds Wood Fired Grill will open a Lexington location June 16 at 2400 Polo Club Blvd. in Hamburg, right in front of Cabela’s.

It’s the 70th location of the North Carolina-based chain known for hand-cut, aged steaks and fresh seafood cooked over a wood-fired grill, using locally sourced hickory, oak or pecan.

“It really brings an extra, bold punch to all the food in a way that you wouldn’t really expect,” said Firebirds marketing coordinator Aggie Hughes. “And I think it sets us apart from competitors and other restaurants in the area.”

Open for lunch, dinner and weekend brunch, the new Lexington restaurant is not as upscale as a fine-dining steakhouse like Tony’s, but it’s a step above Texas Roadhouse, for example.

“I would say we are a pretty modest price point,” said Hughes. “We are a polished casual restaurant, so you can show up for a casual lunch from the office, from working out at the gym, but it’s also a great place to come and celebrate an anniversary or a birthday.”

What’s on the menu at Firebirds Wood Fired Grill?

The menu leads off with 10 steak options, each aged 21 days and butchered in house. The hardwood grilled steaks can be topped with items like braised mushrooms and onions, Cajun butter or a lobster tail.

Hughes expects the blue cheese filet (7 oz., $42.45; 9 oz., $44.45) to stand out — the bacon-wrapped filet is topped with a blue cheese sauce and port mushrooms. All steaks are served with one of Firebirds’ 13 sides including southwestern au gratin potatoes, grilled street corn, Parmesan mashed potatoes or charred carrots.

A salad (Caesar, mixed green, BLT, wedge) can be added for $8.25.

The menu also includes ribs, chops, burgers, sandwiches, pasta and seafood. Hughes said Firebirds’ wood-grilled salmon ($29.95; fresh vegetables plus another side) is one of its bestsellers. The bone-in roasted chicken is also a highlight ($27.95; broccoli, plus another side), Hughes said.

In 2024, Firebirds launched a three-course meal option for price-conscious diners. For $39.95, you get to choose from two starters, four entrées and three desserts.

Will Firebirds open a second Lexington location?

The new restaurant is part of an expansion for the chain. In early 2025, when Firebirds announced it was coming to Lexington, it said it would open in the Hamburg and Palomar areas.

Hughes said nothing is set for a second Lexington restaurant, but they are still possibly looking at a Palomar location.
