Popular Texas-based boot retailer is coming to Lexington. Here’s when and where

A new-to-market Western wear retailer is coming to Kentucky.

Texas-based Cavender’s Boot City is opening its first Kentucky store later this fall in Lexington’s Fayette Mall.

A more than 15,000-square-foot location will house the store’s wide selection of work boots and work apparel, men’s and women’s hats, jeans and Western accent accessories.

In its announcement of the new store, the Western retailer said customers can expect to find such well-known brands as Ariat, Wrangler, Stetson and others. The store will also carry Cavender’s brands: Rockin’ C, Rafter C and JRC & Sons.

“We couldn’t be more excited to be opening our first Kentucky store here in Lexington, a city rich in history and Southern charm,” said Cavender’s District Manager Erik Garza. “Lexington’s deep roots in tradition, community and craftsmanship align perfectly with who we are.”

Like some of its other locations, the store will have personalized services like custom boot fitting and stretching as well as hat shaping.

Jennifer Green, the store’s senior manager of western and community partnerships said the brand was “excited to be in Kentucky’s horse country, and to support the people who live the Western lifestyle every day.”

Cavender’s was founded by a husband and wife in 1965 in a small town in East Texas. It now operates 100 stores in 15 states including Tennessee and Missouri. The company opened its 100th store in August 2024.

In its 60 years of operating, the Cavender family has been inducted into both the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame and the Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame.

Other Fayette Mall news

In the former Logan’s Roadhouse near the mall, Ford’s Garage is set to open later this year. The burger and craft beer restaurant is also new to Lexington and is inspired by the Ford Motor Company.

In 2024, several new national retailers, some new dining options and a few local and regional companies moved into the shopping center totaling 47,280 square feet.

Opening in 1971, Fayette Mall was built on 60 acres and stood then as Central Kentucky’s largest enclosed shopping center. An expansion in 1993 made Fayette Mall the largest mall in Kentucky. Today the shopping center on Nicholasville Road and near New Circle Road has more than 130 tenants in more than 1 million square feet.
