A new daily, direct flight is coming to Lexington’s Blue Grass Airport this month.
Starting Thursday, Sept. 25, United Airlines is adding a fifth daily flight to Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport. It’s a move Blue Grass Airport spokesperson Amy Caudill says will add flexibility for flyers.
“This will provide our United Airlines’ passengers with increased options when traveling to the Windy City or using it as a connecting point to other destinations,” Caudill told the Herald-Leader via an emailed statement. “The flights are nicely spread out throughout the day and timed well for connections.”
Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport is one of the busiest worldwide and has been described as one of the world’s most connected airports.
Currently, Blue Grass Airport offers four daily flights to O’Hare for United passengers and three daily flights for American Airlines flyers.
Flight prices from Lexington to Chicago can vary. Roundtrip tickets for a weekend flight to catch the city’s Bank of America Marathon Sunday, Oct. 12, for example, start at $208 with United, as of Sept. 3.
What recent flight changes are on offer at Lexington’s Blue Grass Airport?
Blue Grass Airport offered seasonal flights to popular beach vacation spots Destin, Fla., and Myrtle Beach, S.C., through Allegiant this summer. Flights to those destinations wrapped up for the season in mid-August, Caudill told the Herald-Leader.
Looking ahead to late 2025, weekly, direct flights to Miami will return starting Saturday, Dec. 20, Caudill added. The service will operate through the end of March.
“This flight, offered on Saturdays, serves as an excellent launching point for destinations in the Caribbean,” Caudill said.
