Updated: Man dies in Lexington’s third fatal crash in the past week, police say

A man was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Lexington Wednesday afternoon, according to police.

The Fayette County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as William McMakin, 29. His manner of death was labeled as an accident.

The wreck happened at 4:48 p.m. on the 2700 block of Russell Cave Road, according to Lt. Samantha Moore with the Lexington Police Department. McMakin was declared dead on scene at 5:32 p.m., according to the coroner’s office.

The road was closed between Faulkner Avenue and Iron Works Pike while LPD’s collision reconstruction unit investigated the scene, according to the Lexington Traffic Management Center. Moore said the road has since reopened.

It’s the third fatal crash in Lexington in six days. Last Friday, a car collided with a box truck on Richmond Road, killing 29-year-old Zachary Deak.

On Wednesday a pedestrian was hit by a car on Nicholasville Road, killing 67-year-old Donald Parker. All three collisions remained under investigation Thursday.
