Significant delays are expected in downtown Lexington Friday as crews repair a water main.

The repairs will take place on Main Street and begin around 9 a.m., according to the Lexington Traffic Management Center. The middle and left lanes of the road are expected to be closed until repairs are complete.

“Motorists should expect significant delays,” the traffic management center said.

Susan Lancho, a spokesperson for Kentucky American Water, said the work is expected to last until 3 p.m.

Crews will fix a leak on a water service line, a smaller pipe that connects a water main to an individual service. Lancho said there will be no interruptions to water service as a result of this work.

People can check Lexington’s traffic cameras at Main Street and Upper Street, and Main Street and Limestone on the city’s website for a look at congestion in the area.
