Lexington firefighter charged with felony theft, placed on administrative leave
A Lexington firefighter has been charged with theft after allegedly failing to complete a remodeling job he was hired to perform, according to court documents.
Jeremiah Littrell was charged Jan. 28 with theft by failure to make a required deposit over $1,000, a felony. Littrell has been with the fire department since 2009.
Lexington fire officials said Thursday Littrell has been placed on paid administrative duty “pending the outcome of the criminal investigation. An internal investigation will follow,” according to a press release.
According to a warrant, Littrell was hired by a man to do several remodeling projects in August 2023, but quit showing up in July 2025. The man told police he paid Littrell $60,097.50 for home remodeling projects around the home and yard. However, some or many of those projects were not completed, the homeowner alleged.
Included in the list of projects Littrell was allegedly paid to complete were new kitchen cabinets, installing laminated floors, installing and painting new drywall and installing new screens, the warrant said.
Hager Cabinets of Richmond had given Littrell a quote of more than $5,000 for the cabinets, according to the warrant. However, the cabinets were never picked up.
Hager Cabinets staff told police Littrell gave them a bad check, which they reported to Madison County authorities, according to the warrant.
Court records do not show any charges for Littrell in Madison County.
Littrell was also sued in Fayette Circuit Court in April 2025 by a Fayette County couple who had hired Littrell and paid him more than $229,000 for remodeling work on a home in 2024. The couple alleged in court documents Littrell took the money but failed to perform the work.
Court documents show the case was dismissed after it was settled in November.
Littrell is scheduled to be arraigned Jan. 30 in Fayette District Court.
