Severe storm, tornado damages mobile home park in Stamping Ground

A trailer park in Stamping Ground suffered major damage Monday morning as a result of a severe storm, according to Stamping Ground Mayor Keith Murphy.

Most of the damage was in the area of Parkers Mobile Home Park off Main Street. Murphy said out of the 24 mobile homes in the park, 19 were damaged, five of them extensively.

Two mobile homes were destroyed, per Murphy. One came off its foundation.

“Every single one of these is going to have to be reinspected,” Murphy said of the mobile homes.

The National Weather Service later confirmed an EF1 tornado roared through the area with wind speeds up to 95 miles per hour.

Two mobile homes were flipped and 19 others were damaged at Parkers Mobile Home Park according to Keith Murphy, the mayor of Stamping Ground in Stamping Ground, Ky., Saturday, December 6, 2021.

Residences in Stamping Ground have been damaged by similar weather patterns before, Murphy said.

The Stamping Ground Christian Church has opened up its basement to those who were displaced from their homes, according to the Stamping Ground Fire Department. The Red Cross is also en route to Stamping Ground to assist with the cleanup, which Murphy said could take upwards of one month.

Georgetown Scott County EMS has set up an EMS triage station at the fire department’s station on Springview Drive.

Scott County Schools closed to in-person learning on Monday as a result of the storm, which left many without power and downed electrical poles scattered all over the area.
