22-year-old woman dead after fatal car accident in Central Kentucky

A 22-year-old University of Kentucky student died in a car accident in Georgetown Monday, according to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office and UK.

The accident happened at approximately 4:12 p.m. at the intersection of McClelland Circle and Seminole Trail. The sheriff’s office said Sydney Cassady was driving a passenger car attempting to turn left onto McClelland Circle from Seminole Trail when her vehicle was hit by a Dodge Ram pickup truck going west on McClelland Circle.

Cassady was declared dead on scene, according to Scott County Coroner Mark Sutton. A preliminary investigation by the sheriff’s office determined Cassady failed to yield to oncoming traffic.

The driver of the pickup truck suffered minor injuries and was sent to a hospital.

Cassady was a UK student, majoring in foreign languages and international economics/Spanish, UK spokesperson Allison Perry said. Cassady was from Rockfield, which is near Bowling Green, Perry said.

Officials had the intersection closed while they investigated the scene. The road has since been reopened.

There were multiple serious crashes in Central Kentucky Monday night. Lexington police responded to a collision that left one person with life-threatening injuries. A driver was charged with DUI in that crash. In Nicholasville a driver was seriously injured after rear-ending a dump truck.
