Victim dies from injuries several days after shooting, Lexington police say

Richard B. Williams, 54, of Stamping Ground, died Tuesday from the shooting injuries, police said. He died in Scott County, and Scott County Coroner John Goble assisted in the investigation, police said. Goble ruled the death a homicide.

Williams was found with a head wound after police responded to a call at Rand Avenue and Engman Avenue, police said. Two pedestrians found Williams just before midnight.

Williams was initially taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, according to Lt. Andrew Daugherty. He died in his parents’ home in Stamping Ground, according to Goble. The autopsy was done Wednesday in Frankfort, Goble said.

There have been nine homicides since the beginning of the year in Lexington, according to police records. Two of those have occurred since March 6, the day Gov. (Larry Steven Rose Jr., 44, died in a shooting near Transylvania University the afternoon of March 6, about the time the COVID-19 case was announced.)

In 2019, there were a record 30 homicides.
