Teenager charged with murder in 1 of 2 Lexington homicides on same block, police say

A teenager has been charged with murder in Lexington, police announced Friday.

A 17-year-old has been charged with killing Lowell A. Johnson, 55, in the 1800 block of Augusta Drive Wednesday morning. Juveniles’ names are not released.

The teen was taken to the Fayette County Regional Juvenile Detention Center. Police said the teenager also had two out-of-county pickup orders, which are similar to warrants issued for adults.

The shooting was the first of two homicides to happen in a span of 24 hours at the same apartment complex, police said. Sgt. Donnell Gordon said the investigation into the other homicide, which killed 58-year-old Bruce Trice, is still ongoing. He did not say the teen had been ruled out as a suspect in the second homicide.

Police have asked that anyone with further information about the shootings call (859) 258-3600. Anonymous tips can also be sent through Bluegrass Crime Stoppers at (859) 253-2020 or www.bluegrasscrimestoppers.com.
