Shootings frequent on this Lexington street. Latest incident hospitalizes victim
One man was hospitalized with injuries after a shooting Monday on Augusta Drive, a short street that has had several shootings, including two homicides, this year, police said.
Lexington police were sent to the 1800 block of Augusta Drive around 6:15 p.m. Monday on a report of a shooting, Lt. Jeremy Tuttle said. When they arrived, officers couldn’t find a victim, he said but a man in his early 30s showed up at a local hospital later. His injuries weren’t life-threatening.
The victim hasn’t cooperated with police, Tuttle said.
The 1800 block of Augusta Drive was the site of two homicides in a 24-hour span in May. The shootings killed two men in their 50s. A 17-year-old was arrested in one of the cases. A suspect hasn’t yet been named in the other case. Both are still open cases, according to Lexington police. Sgt. Donnell Gordon said at the time it was unclear if the two shootings were related.
Augusta Drive near Eastland Parkway and Dixie Elementary is a few blocks long, and it has several apartment buildings at one end.
In addition to the two homicides, there was a third shooting that day on nearby Augusta Court, which turns into Augusta Drive. A teen was charged with wanton endangerment and drug possession, police said.
There were also reports of a shooting on Augusta Drive on Friday. Police said the incident wasn’t related to Monday’s shooting, according to WKYT, the Herald-Leader’s reporting partner.
